Composite bonding in Turkey: small changes, little or no drilling

Bonding adds tooth-coloured resin to repair chips, close small gaps and even out edges, usually without removing healthy tooth. Here is what it does well and where it falls short.

Short answer

Composite bonding in Turkey at Precious Dental costs £125 per tooth. The dentist builds tooth-coloured resin onto the tooth by hand, shapes it and polishes it, usually in a single appointment and often without any drilling. It suits small chips, gaps and worn edges. Bonding is less hard-wearing than porcelain and may need polishing or repair over the years.

Composite bonding in Turkey is a good choice for people who like their teeth overall but are bothered by one or two details: a chipped front tooth, a small gap, edges that have worn uneven. At Precious Dental in Antalya we often suggest bonding before veneers, because in most cases it leaves your natural tooth untouched. This page explains what bonding is, what it can fix, how long it tends to last and what it costs.

What composite bonding is

Composite is a tooth-coloured resin, the same family of material used for white fillings. For bonding, the dentist chooses a shade that matches your tooth, lightly roughens the surface so the resin will grip, applies a bonding agent, then builds the resin up in thin layers. Each layer is set hard with a blue light. The final shape is carved and polished by hand at the chair.

Because it is built directly onto the tooth, no laboratory is involved and no impression is needed. That also means the result depends heavily on the dentist's eye and hand, so the shaping is done slowly and checked from several angles.

What bonding is good for

  • a chip or small break on a front tooth
  • closing a small gap between front teeth
  • edge bonding: lengthening and evening out teeth that have worn short
  • reshaping a tooth that is smaller than its neighbour
  • covering a small mark or white spot that whitening has not shifted

It is less suited to large changes. If you want every visible tooth changed in colour and shape, resin on all of them needs more upkeep than ceramic, and porcelain veneers may be the better long-term choice. If a tooth is badly broken or heavily filled, a crown will protect it better.

Why it is often the right first step

The main appeal of bonding is what it does not do. In most cases no healthy tooth is cut away. If you later decide you want veneers, the bonding can usually be removed or worked into the new plan. If you change your mind about the shape, it can be adjusted. That makes bonding a sensible way to try a change, particularly for someone unsure whether they want a bigger makeover.

It is also a useful repair for older patients whose front teeth have worn down from years of use. Building the edges back with resin can make a smile look less tired, without committing to crowns.

Neither is better in every case. Many people start with bonding and are happy for years. Others find they want the polish and stain resistance of ceramic, and move to veneers later. Because bonding leaves the tooth largely as it was, that path stays open.

How it works at our clinic

  1. Photos first Send clear smile photos by WhatsApp or the form. A dentist reviews them and sends a written plan with the teeth to bond and an itemised price. No payment needed.
  2. Check-up In Antalya the dentist checks for decay and gum problems, which are dealt with first. The plan is confirmed in writing.
  3. Whitening, if wanted If you would like lighter teeth, whitening comes first, because resin cannot be whitened later.
  4. Shade and shape The dentist matches the resin colour to your teeth and agrees the shape with you. For more than a couple of teeth, digital smile design or a mock-up can help.
  5. Bonding The resin is applied and set layer by layer. Anaesthetic is often not needed, as little or no drilling is involved.
  6. Polish and bite check Each tooth is polished to a natural shine and your bite is checked so the new edges do not clash. You get written aftercare.

Bonding fits easily into a short trip or alongside other treatment. See how it works for planning.

Looking after bonding

Bonded teeth are cleaned like your own: brush twice daily with a soft brush and clean between teeth. Resin stains more easily than ceramic, so tea, coffee, red wine and smoking will dull it faster. A hygienist can polish the surface at check-ups to bring the shine back. Avoid biting nails, pens or opening packets with your front teeth, and wear a night guard if you grind.

Risks and honest limits

  • Chipping. Resin is softer than enamel or ceramic, and edges can chip, especially in people who grind or bite hard foods with the front teeth.
  • Staining and dulling over time. Reviews of composite veneers name surface roughness and discolouration among the commonest complications.
  • Shorter life than porcelain. Expect to maintain, repair or redo bonding at some point.
  • Colour is fixed. Resin will not lighten with whitening.
  • Limits of size. Very large build-ups are more likely to break.

The good news is that repairs are simple. A chipped corner can usually be added back in one short appointment.

Common questions

Does composite bonding damage my teeth?

In most cases no healthy tooth is removed. The surface is lightly roughened so the resin can grip. That is why bonding is often a good first step before anything more permanent.

How long does composite bonding last?

It varies with your bite and habits. Reviews of composite repairs for worn front teeth report good survival over several years, with chipping and staining as the usual problems. Repairs are simple.

Bonding or veneers?

Bonding for small changes and when you want to keep every bit of tooth. Porcelain veneers for bigger changes in colour and shape that need to last longer and resist stains. See veneers.

Can bonding be whitened?

No. Resin does not respond to whitening. If you want lighter teeth, whiten first and bond afterwards to the new shade. See teeth whitening.

Is composite bonding guaranteed?

Bonding is not listed separately in our published guarantee, so ask us for the terms that apply before treatment. See our guarantee page.
