A Hollywood smile in Turkey is something many people in the UK have heard of before they have heard of any clinic. The phrase usually means a full row of bright, even teeth, made with veneers or crowns. At Precious Dental in Antalya we are happy to make that look, but we are careful about how. This page explains what a Hollywood smile really involves, how to keep it looking natural, and what it costs with us.

What people mean by a Hollywood smile

There is no clinical definition. In practice, people mean three things: teeth that are lighter than they are now, edges that line up evenly, and shapes that are balanced from one side to the other. It is usually done on every tooth that shows when you smile broadly, so the colour and shape are consistent across the whole visible arch.

The phrase has picked up a bad name in the UK because of the cases sometimes called Turkey teeth: healthy teeth filed down to small pegs and covered in thick, opaque crowns of one flat white. Those cases are real, and they are why we start every conversation with how much tooth needs to be removed, not with the shade.

Veneers, crowns, or both

The choice depends on each tooth, not on the look you want. Thin laminate veneers cover the front surface and need only light shaping. Crowns cover the whole tooth and need much more. A well-known study measuring the tooth removed by each preparation found the difference is large, which is why a veneer is the kinder option when a tooth is healthy.

• Healthy teeth that are stained, small or unevenly shaped: laminate veneers
• Teeth with big fillings, cracks or root canal treatment: crowns, usually zirconia, sometimes E-max at the front
• Old crowns you want to match the new look: replaced with new crowns
• Back teeth that do not show in your smile: often left alone

Keeping it natural

A bright smile does not have to look fake. Most of the difference comes down to a handful of choices.

Shade. Ceramic shades go well beyond natural tooth colours. The very brightest look striking in a photo and odd across a dinner table, especially next to older skin. We show you shades in daylight, next to your face, and say honestly what we think.

Shape. Natural front teeth are not identical. The two central teeth are slightly larger, the ones beside them a little shorter, and edges have soft character. Cosmetic dentists such as Dt. Şeyda Yılmaz and Dt. Hüseyin Bayram design these differences in on purpose.

Thickness. Teeth that are too thick push the lip forward and look bulky. Thin veneers avoid that.

Gum line. Healthy, even gums frame the teeth. If gum disease is present, it is treated before the smile is made.

Seeing it first

We plan every Hollywood smile on screen with digital smile design, using photos of your face and a scan of your teeth. Then we make a trial smile: a resin copy of the design placed over your own teeth, with no drilling. Look at it in natural light, take photos, show a family member. If it feels too white or too long, it is changed now. This one step prevents most regrets.

Your week, step by step

1. Photos first Send a few smile photos from home. A dentist reviews them and replies with a preliminary written plan and itemised price, free.
2. Examination on day one X-rays, scans and a check of gums and roots, then the final plan is confirmed in writing.
3. Design and mock-up You approve the shape and shade on the trial smile.
4. Preparation Teeth are shaped as little as the plan allows, under local anaesthetic, and scanned. Temporaries go on.
5. Try-in in daylight The finished veneers or crowns are tried in and adjusted before anything is fixed.
6. Fitting Everything is bonded or cemented, the bite is checked and you get written aftercare.

Risks and honest limits

• Irreversible. Once teeth are prepared, they will always need veneers or crowns.
• Maintenance. Veneers and crowns can chip or come loose, and will eventually need replacing.
• Grinding. Clenching and grinding is a common cause of broken veneers. A night guard is essential if you grind.
• Uniform can look artificial. The more identical the teeth, the less natural they tend to look.
• Your other teeth stay the same colour. Teeth outside the plan will not match unless whitened first.

Price and what is included

A Hollywood smile is priced tooth by tooth. As an example, ten laminate veneers would be ten times £300, and any crowns would be added at their own price.

Airport and clinic transfers are included; the zirconia package adds 5 hotel nights when your plan is zirconia crowns. Flights are not included. Payment is taken at the clinic, only for the plan you signed off. All prices are on prices.

Neglected hygiene, missed check-ups, or grinding without a night guard can reduce or void it, and sports and accident damage are excluded. Is a Hollywood smile the same as Turkey teeth?

No. The phrase Turkey teeth is used for teeth cut down heavily for crowns without good reason. A Hollywood smile can be done with thin laminate veneers that keep most of the tooth. Ask how much tooth will be removed and why.

What is the whitest shade I can have?
